Mother's Day at the Women's Centre
Welcome to my blog post about gifting sterling silver jewellery to mothers at a women's shelter on Mother's Day. As a jewelry designer, I found some of my sterling silver designs while cleaning up my showroom and decided to give them away to uplift the women at a local women's shelter in Owen Sound.
I wanted to give back to the community and show my support to these strong women who have been through so much, especially during these challenging times. The COVID-19 pandemic has affected everyone, but it has disproportionately impacted vulnerable communities, including women who are experiencing abuse and violence. With many women and children having to stay at home more than usual, there has been a surge in domestic violence incidents globally. These women deserve our support and love, and I felt like gifting them with a beautiful piece of jewelry was a small way I could make a difference.
The goal was to gift them with a beautiful piece of jewellery that would make them feel valued, loved, and special. As I prepared each piece of jewellery, I felt overwhelmed with joy to be part of such a heartwarming moment for Mother's Day 2021. I wanted to give them a tangible reminder of their worth and strength, something that they could keep with them and cherish as they continue to heal and rebuild their lives.
The pieces of jewellery were more than just a gift; they could symbolize their strength as they move forward or be a reminder of their resilience to find a better life for themselves and their children. I chose to donate these pieces to the women's shelter as I was once in their shoes, leaving an abusive relationship, and starting a new life with my daughter. Second stage housing played a crucial role in my healing and rebuilding, and I will forever be grateful for their support.
It felt like a full-circle experience to say goodbye to some of my sterling silver works while honoring my past. Looking back at my journey, I realized how far I had come and how much I had grown as a person. I wanted to pass on the hope and strength that I had gained to these women and show them that they too can rise above their circumstances and create a better life for themselves and their children.
Mother's Day is a time to celebrate all the amazing mothers out there, and I hope this Mother's Day was filled with so much love for everyone. Let us continue to support and uplift women who are facing challenges in their lives. Together, we can create a world where every woman is valued, respected, and loved.
To end this post, I want to share a quote from Mitch Albom, "Behind all your stories is always your mother's story, because hers is where yours begins." Our mothers are our first teachers, role models, and supporters. Let us continue to honor and celebrate their love and sacrifices every day.
Thank you for reading, and I hope you enjoyed this post. Till next time!
